Larry Hayes

Larry Hayes, an accomplished businessman and government agency leader, was appointed to head the Kentucky Cabinet for Economic Development as interim secretary by Gov. Andy Beshear in December 2019.

Hayes previously served as the Cabinet for Economic Development secretary from 2007-2015.

He is responsible for the development and administration of executive policies designed to support and promote the attraction of new jobs and investment to the Commonwealth of Kentucky, maintenance of existing industries and overall support of economic growth for the state.

Prior to joining state government, Hayes served as both deputy mayor and secretary of Finance and Administration in the City of Louisville, Ky.

His extensive career also includes private-sector experience including ownership of Midwest Construction Inc. in Lexington, Ky., and interests in both banking and warehousing and distribution operations in Elizabethtown, Ky.
Hayes was also involved in creation of Greater Louisville Inc., a non-profit and the state’s largest regional economic development organization, where he served as president from 1987-1988.

Prior to his work in Louisville, Hayes served the administration of former Ky. Gov. Martha Layne Collins as both secretary of the Executive Cabinet and state budget director from 1983-1987.
